Tree Stewards Announce Fall Training

Tree Steward Fall Training Applications Open

Residents worried about our urban forest, their neighbor’s tree, or the declining oak in their own yard can apply now for a seven-week course to learn about trees and become a volunteer Tree Steward with Tree Stewards of Arlington and Alexandria.

Self-directed individual study will be augmented by in-person training in tree anatomy and identification, soils, planting, pruning, pests and diseases, and general tree care. Afterward, trainees can volunteer in the community to help educate others about effective tree care and use their new skills to plant, prune, and protect trees.

Online applications will be accepted until July 26, and trainees will be notified of acceptance in early August. The first class will be held outdoors on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13, and the last on Sunday, Nov. 1. Information about the training can be found on treestewards.org, the website of Tree Stewards of Arlington and Alexandria. Individuals do not need to live in Arlington or Alexandria to apply.
