Flight diversions and delays of several hours are being reported at Reagan National Airport amid an ongoing ground stop.
The ground stop has been in effect since around 11 a.m. for a “VIP” security-related reason. No further details were given and the Federal Aviation Administration has not responded to an inquiry from ARLnow, but President Trump has been meeting with the Iraqi prime minister at the White House.
The FAA website says the ground stop is expected to remain in effect until at least 3 p.m. and the airport is expected to go into a “ground delay program” to manage congestion after.
On the airport website, numerous early afternoon flights are now showing departure times between 4-6 p.m., while others have been cancelled.
Numerous arriving flights, meanwhile, appear to have been diverted, including American Airlines 2915 from Miami, which was diverted to Dulles International, and American 1556 from Boston, which was diverted to Philadelphia and is holding there before completing the trip to DCA, according to real time flight information.
