Falls Church named most ‘cat-loving’ city in Virginia

Is there anything Falls Church residents love as much as dogs? Cats, apparently.

Just months after being named the most “dog-loving” city in Virginia, the Little City has ranked top in the state for its residents’ love of cats.

PetSmart placed Falls Church No. 5 in the nation for feline friendship, based on sales of cat products at PetSmart stores and adoptions at PetSmart Charities events.

There is no PetSmart within Falls Church city limits, but a nearby store is located at 6100 Arlington Blvd in Seven Corners.

“Cats can thrive in smaller spaces, making them ideal for a variety of living spaces and lifestyles,” PetSmart Charities President Aimee Gilbreath said in a press release. “More people than ever are discovering that their independence makes them incredible companions.”

Suburban localities featured heavily in the cat-friendly ranking. Falls Church placed in between Plattsburgh, N.Y., a city of 20,000 near the Canadian border, and Daly City, Calif., located just south of San Francisco.

No other Virginia cities made the ranking. The only other D.C.-area localities were both in Montgomery County: Germantown and Kensington, Md.
