Five displaced after fire in basement of Green Valley home

A significant fire in the basement of a large home in Green Valley left five residents searching for a place to stay.

The fire was reported just after 11 p.m. last Thursday, Aug. 27, on the 3100 block of 17th Street N., near the intersection with S. Glebe Road.

“Fire department units responded to a structure fire at a large single-family residence on the 3100 block of 17th Road S.,” Arlington County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jamie Jill tells ARLnow. “Crews arrived to find fire from a basement window. The basement fire was extinguished with no extensions to the other floors.”

No one was injured, but five people were displaced by the fire. The emergency response partially blocked traffic on S. Glebe Road, according to scanner traffic.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating the cause of the blaze.
