Clarendon Day is just a few weeks away, returning with live music, food and even more vendors than last year.
The free, annual street festival will take place around the Clarendon Metro station on Saturday, Sept. 26.
This year’s event starts at 11 a.m., and live music acts will be performing throughout the day. A yacht rock party by Captain Seawalker will kick off the morning, followed at 1 p.m. by The Fuss, a D.C.-based ska band. The rock band Legal in the District will start at 4 p.m. and close out the day.
Dozens of local craft vendors will be attending — including CG Ceramics, Salty Beach Jewelry and Trini Pepper Sauce — while food options will feature Bites of Joy Cookies, Mac’s Donuts, Spice Kraft Indian Bistro and more.
Several local organizations, churches and political groups will also be at the event, sharing information about their work in the community.
The 175 planned vendors are up from 150 that participated in last year’s festival. Galin Brooks, executive director of the Clarendon Alliance, told ARLnow that the event is already at capacity on booth space after “incredibly strong” demand from the community.
More than 20,000 people are expected to attend the festivities, hosted by the Clarendon Alliance for more than 25 years.
“Clarendon Day is when the whole corridor comes together to celebrate and showcase what makes this area so special,” Brooks said. “I’m looking forward to seeing that energy on the street on Sept. 26, all across the eight blocks of festival activities.”
For kids, there will be an 8-foot inflatable slide, tropical-theme obstacle course, crafts, glitter tattoos and balloon animals. The first 500 kids to visit the Clarendon Alliance booth will also get free prizes.
Several streets in the area will be closed for the festivities, so attendees are encouraged to take the Metro. The Arlington County Police Department is expected to announce more details on the specific affected roads closer to the event.
