Closures are coming to the southbound lanes of GW Parkway starting next week.
For the past month, crews have been completing work along the northbound lanes of the parkway from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. Starting next Monday, Sept. 21, it will be the southbound lanes’ turn.
All southbound lanes of GW Parkway will be closed from Sept. 21 to Oct. 29 between Route 123 and Spout Run Parkway, during the same hours as the current closures.
“Crews will assess tree conditions, prune branches and remove trees when necessary,” the National Park Service said in a press release. “This work supports the long-term health of the parkway’s landscape and surrounding natural areas.”
The ongoing tree work on the northbound side of the road will conclude on Thursday.
“Drivers should plan ahead, expect delays and allow additional travel time,” NPS said. “Motorists should consider alternate routes during the closure periods, slow down, remain alert and follow posted signs and directions from workers.”
