Three people died and a fourth remains in the hospital after a vehicle crashed while fleeing police in Shirlington Circle early Monday morning.
Virginia State Police attempted to pull the vehicle over shortly before 1 a.m. after identifying it as stolen out of Prince George’s County, authorities said. The vehicle refused to stop, resulting in the chase on I-395.
The crash took place while the suspect vehicle was attempting to exit the interstate at Shirlington Road.
“The vehicle lost control on the exit ramp and ran off of the right side of the ramp and into the jersey wall,” state police told ARLnow.
One passenger died at the scene. The driver and a second passenger died at the hospital, while a final occupant remained hospitalized with life-threatening injuries as of this morning.
Police believe all of the occupants were under 18 years old. None were wearing seatbelts.
Arlington County police, along with fire department personnel from Arlington and Alexandria, responded to the scene after the crash. CPR was performed by first responders before medics rushed three to local trauma centers.
