Several get-out-the-vote rallies and marches will be taking place in Arlington tomorrow (Saturday).
Crowds are expected near Memorial Circle and in several residential neighborhoods in the morning. They’re among more than 2,000 events planned across the country as organizers from the “No Kings” movement encourage voter turnout in the midterms.
The largest event, hosted by Third Act DMV, will begin at 9:30 a.m. just south of Memorial Circle. The rally there will include several prominent speakers, including Mary Bauer, executive director of the Virginia ACLU; Tara Hoot, a local performer and organizer with Hands off the Arts; and former CNN journalist Jim Acosta.
For the past several weeks, protesters have been gathering in Memorial Circle in opposition to President Donald Trump’s plans to build a 250-foot-tall triumphal arch. They will be marching across Memorial Bridge to the Lincoln Memorial around 11 a.m. tomorrow.
We of Action Virginia will also be hosting “community walks” to three early voting locations from 8:45-10:30 a.m. Organizers will take the three following routes:
- Fort Barnard Park to Walter Reed Community Center
- James Hunter Dog Park to Courthouse Plaza
- Woodstock Park to Langston-Brown Community Center
Another high-visibility event with a similar get-out-the-vote message is planned at 2710 S. Glebe Road from 2-4 p.m.
On the ballot this year in Arlington are three proposed constitutional amendments, five bond referendums, two federal races for House and Senate, and local races for County Board, School Board and treasurer. In all the competitive races, incumbents are seeking to defend their seats.
