Live tuna carving, make-your-own dumpling class and more happening in Rosslyn

A series of events including a carving of an entire tuna, a cooking class and a taco tasting are coming to a Rosslyn food hall in the coming weeks.

Upside on Moore (1700 N. Moore Street) has a full slate of seasonal happenings planned through November.

Tacos and mezcal tasting

This event features four tacos made with aguachile, fish, pork and lamb barbacoa, plus a “surprise” dessert and mezcal cocktails available at the bar. It takes place at La Michoacana in celebration of the Day of the Dead.

Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., $30 per person (cocktails are extra)

Fall Cocktail Week

Another boozy event will feature offerings from retail bays throughout the food hall during the second week of November. The following cocktails will be available all day at the bar:

  • Bourbon Bacon Old Fashioned — Ghostburger
  • Dragon Lychee Cocktail — Neko Panchi
  • Hazelnut Espresso Martini — Lightning Coffee
  • Mezcal Margarita — La Michoacana
  • Jersey Shore Lemonade — Tony Boloney’s
  • Pumpkin White Russian — The Sweet District
  • Lili’s Moscow Mule — Lili’s
  • Ginger Pear Mule — Little Tiger Dumplings

Make-your-own dumplings

The owner of Little Tiger Dumplings is hosting a hands-on dumpling-making class. Participants will prepare fillings and learn how to wrap 12 dumplings in a variety of styles, while snacking on Little Tiger Dumplings favorites and a complimentary boba tea.

Friday, Nov. 13 from 6-7:30 p.m., $38 per person

Live tuna carving

This Japanese celebration of fall will feature the work of Chef Saran “Peter” Kannasute from Yume Sushi and Chafik Hocine, executive chef of Upside on Moore. An entire tuna will be carved and guests will enjoy fresh sushi, nigiri and sashimi. The event will also include an oyster shucking, a Japanese tea tasting and specialty cocktails and mocktails.

“Come hungry, bring your friends, and experience an evening where Japanese culinary tradition meets the vibrant energy of UPSIDE on Moore,” an event description says.

Saturday, Nov. 14 from 5-9 p.m., $85 per person

Friendsgiving celebration

Finally, the food hall will be hosting a Friendsgiving event the day before Thanksgiving with music, food and drink specials and a gift card raffle.
