Delivery robots’ presence expands in Arlington amid regionwide shift

Roaming fleets of delivery robots have been expanding throughout the D.C. area in recent months, including in Arlington.

In the three months since the company Avride began having robots carry Uber Eats orders in Arlington, the company says it has added more bots in response to market demand.

Los Tios Grill closes in Crystal City after seven years

Los Tios Grill has closed its doors for good on Crystal City’s Restaurant Row, ending a seven-year run.

The spot for Tex-Mex and Salvadoran dishes opened at 515 23rd Street S. in early 2019, serving up bites like fajitas and quesadillas, plus drinks such as margaritas, sangria and draft beer.

Java Loco near Ballston Metro plans to open by early October

A Java Loco location is preparing to open within the next few weeks near the Ballston Metro station, replacing a Starbucks that closed last year.

The Vietnamese cafe and bubble tea shop plans to open at 901 N. Stuart Street in late September or early October, co-owners Nam Tran and Nga Ho told ARLnow.

Life-size wildlife sculptures create ‘big safari’ in Pentagon City

Four animal sculptures have turned Metropolitan Park into an unlikely safari for the past several weeks.

Leo the Lion, Jerry the Giraffe, Billie the Bear and Cody the Steer have greeted visitors since late August in an installation organized by Amazon’s HQ2 and the art organization NINE dot ARTS.

Civic Federation salutes Arlington firefighters with proclamation and plaque

The Arlington County Civic Federation opened its 2026-27 year with a salute to personnel of the Arlington County Fire Department.

More than two dozen firefighters were on hand for the Sept. 8 presentation. Civic Federation president Nicholas Giacobbe said the event was designed to show “how much the Arlington community appreciates and supports the fire department.”

Solace Outpost opens in Ballston, dethroning El Rey taqueria

The El Rey taqueria and margarita bar is no more, but Ballston locals can find solace in a new watering hole.

Solace Outpost opened yesterday (Wednesday) at 4201 Wilson Blvd, offering beer, burgers, bowls and bratwurst in a relaxed, sporty atmosphere.

Nash & Smashed opens at Buckingham Center, serving fried chicken and burgers

Nash & Smashed has finally opened its Glebe Road location, serving up Nashville-style fried chicken and smash burgers.

The rapidly growing chain plans to hold a grand opening at 310 N. Glebe Road in about a month, but it is already selling its signature sandwiches along with mocktail-style mojitos, milkshakes and desserts, Chief Operating Officer Lamaan Malik told ARLnow.
