Leaders of VOICE (Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement) cautiously welcomed the announcement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of a nationwide eviction moratorium through Dec. 31, but noted that Congress and the Administration still need to work together to provide significant funding to prevent huge rental housing market instability after the ban expires.
VOICE leaders will continue to press the General Assembly, currently meeting in special session, and Gov. Ralph Northam to provide at least $200 million in new funding for the Governor’s Rent and Mortgage Relief Program, as well as additional protections for renters. Those include closing current loopholes that landlords can exploit to evict renters and ensure tenants who owe rent do not have their credit ruined, and in so doing make finding a new home nearly impossible.

Beginning with applicants for the Fall 2021 semester, Marymount University will adopt a complete test-optional policy for submission of SAT and ACT scores.
This decision builds off of the University’s longstanding commitment to a holistic review of applications, as Marymount has been test-optional for select students for a number of years already. Previously, students who had a high school GPA of 3.0 or above were not required to submit their SAT or ACT scores for admissions consideration. Now, students with a GPA below 3.0 will also not be required to do so.
In its latest strategic initiative, Transform MU, Marymount University is restructuring its existing academic programs into three highly focused Colleges, each combining disciplines to create broader educational and research opportunities. These changes are part of Marymount’s Strategic Plan, Momentum, which builds on the University’s strengths and creates market-leading learning opportunities that prepare both first-time students and adult learners for rewarding careers and fulfilling lives.
The new structure, which will be implemented immediately and completed during the fall semester, is designed to maximize interdisciplinary education and research while accommodating future student growth and program expansion to meet changing societal needs. Each of the Colleges, led by deans, will be composed of a number of interdisciplinary schools without departments that are led by school directors. Dr. Hesham El-Rewini, Provost and Senior Vice President at Marymount, stressed the importance of this new structure to students and the community.
