Penzance, a leading owner, operator, and developer in the Washington, DC metropolitan region, and Arlington Public Art today announced a new partnership to bring a public art installation to The Highlands, a dynamic mixed-use development project along the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor. The sculpture will be located on the façade of the new Arlington County Fire Station 10 in Rosslyn and will honor the fire department and reflect its long-standing work in the surrounding community while enhancing the public space within The Highlands.
As part of the project, local artists David and Eli Hess were commissioned to develop a site-specific work of public art for the façade of the station. The sculpture is funded by Penzance as part of the site plan process for The Highlands.
On Wednesday, September 11, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine will attend the Arlington County Government’s 9/11 remembrance event to commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The event will feature a wreath-laying and a moment of silence held at 9:37 a.m., the moment of impact at the Pentagon. County officials and local first responders will be in attendance to express their gratitude for all those who responded to the terrorist attacks and cared for victims that day.

Cuisine Solutions and its sister company CREA, The Culinary Research and Education Academy, are pleased to announce that their innovative Café + Teria program, which launched in 2017 to provide high school students with a healthy, balanced, customized lunch, is expanding into four Virginia districts for the 2019-2020 school year. The program is also launching in South Carolina at four Pickens County high schools. At each Café +Teria, students select ingredients in four steps to build a nutritious meal. They pick a base of grain, salad or a wrap; a protein: antibiotic-free chicken, ground beef, or Paneer cheese; a topping of vegetables, cheese and sauces, and a dressing. Motorists are advised that lane closures will continue on the general purpose lanes along northbound I-395 this weekend, Aug. 23-25, from King Street (Exit 5) to S. Washington Boulevard (Exit 8A) for bridge rehabilitation work. The HOV lanes will also close to accommodate this bridge work starting Friday night and through the weekend. The HOV lanes will reopen in the northbound direction in time for Monday morning’s commute.
Drivers traveling to D.C. this weekend are urged to use alternative routes. Local traffic may still use the general purpose lanes, but should expect closures. All drivers should expect delays and plan extra travel time.
The Office of Campus and Residential Services (OCRS) at Marymount University is welcoming new students as they move into residence halls on campus during 2019 Move-In Day on Wednesday.
An estimated 230 first-year students are arriving on this day, and checking in from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Butler Hall, Ostapenko Hall and Rowley Hall on Marymount’s main campus. Orientation check-in is scheduled from 12:30 to 5 p.m., with a Welcome Dinner to follow from 5 to 7 p.m. in front of The Lodge near the university’s main entrance from North Glebe Road.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement today following the Senate passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019, a two-year bipartisan budget deal that would suspend the debt ceiling until July 2021:
“Today I voted to preserve the full faith and credit of the United States and steer us away from another harmful government shutdown in the fall. By suspending the debt ceiling for two years, the bipartisan budget agreement guarantees that the United States will continue to pay our bills, while also preventing harmful sequester cuts that would hurt our military and jeopardize important programs that serve our veterans, prepare our children for the future, and rebuild our crumbling roads and bridges.
