Last Chance to See Tulips at the Netherlands Carillon

by Katie Pyzyk | April 13, 2012 at 3:59 pm | 2,409 views | 19 Comments

Your chances to see the tulips at the Netherlands Carillon near Rosslyn are running out.

Although many of the flowers are still in top form, some have already lost their petals. There likely won’t be many more days to see the full display before only stems remain.

The colorful tulips bloom every year in front of the carillon, which was a gift from the Dutch in appreciation for the sacrifices the United States made during World War II.

I used one bad word last week and now I’m being moderated. I feel like teacher is scolding me.

I know they were a horrible, brutal enemy, but I truly appreciate this small token of forgiveness from the Dutch people.

    beautiful flowers.

Years ago my sister and I stayed with an old woman in a small town in The Neatherlands and she told us about the horrors of WWII and how the wonderful Americans had saved her life. The US brought them shoes and food and helped many survive after the horrible war.

Made me very proud for the US and very sad for all those who suffered during the war.

The US didn’t have much of a role in the Netherlands, other than the failure of operation Market Garden. Canadian forces were the ones who liberated the Netherlands.

      • drax

Sounds like she was talking about relief after the war.

      • Max

Well then she was part right. Canadians=Americans.
