Arlington Pet of the Week: Gus and Tux

Becky's Pet Care

Our first Pet(s) of the Week for the new year are Gus and Tux, whose owner says they are “just about the most dapper cats around.”

Here’s what owner Brittany had to say about the fun-loving pair of rescue kitties:

Gus and Tux are just about the most dapper cats around. Every day they sport their tuxedos just to lounge around the house and watch birds from the windows. They are about 1 1/2 years old and were adopted from local rescues in Arlington.

Tux is a full-time explorer/thrill seeker and curses daily his lack of an opposable thumb — his only impediment from taking over all of Arlington…and then the world. He manages to get into some pretty tricky spots including the momentarily opened refrigerator, exposed rafters, and the top shelf of closets via hung clothes. Tux is quite handsome, and unfortunately knows it. When told, “Tux, you are the Ryan Gosling of cats!” he nonchalantly states (with a perfectly-shaped pink nose in the air), “More like this Ryan Gosling is the Tux of humans.” Like any prima donna he is very much into getting his way — where he sleeps, when he eats, etc. When Tux does not get his way, he lets everyone know with a meow-ed soliloquy to announce “I am descended from lions… LIONS!”

Gus, while just too cute for his own good, is a consistent partner in crime, jimmying open doors and cabinets for Tux to then explore. He is also wanted in connection with of a series of hair tie robberies; some so brazen they were taken right from his mom’s hair while she slept. Gus’ creativity comes through by way of his micro blogging. He is always eager to help his mom and dad with their computer work by jumping on the keyboard, adding insightful and well-placed comments like “zzzzzzzzzzzz” and “zdfesefe.” Gus has recently petitioned for a Twitter account, telling us, “I got all this stuff inside, and I have to get out it to the people. #tweetsfromacat #pawprose #tuxedotweeter.” But ultimately, he aspires to be a scientist. So far his experiments have primarily focused on Newton’s Law of Gravity, testing that all items knocked off of tables or dressers do in fact fall to earth. In a recent report authored by Gus, he detailed a 100% passage of all his tests, confirming Newton’s Law continues to hold true today.
