Condoleezza Rice has been making the television rounds lately, promoting her new memoir. Last night, she made an appearance on the Daily Show. Today she’s appearing at the Pentagon City Costco.

The former U.S. Secretary of State will sign copies of “Condoleezza Rice: A Memoir of My Extraordinary, Ordinary Family and Me” from noon to 2:00 p.m.

The book is a candid look at Rice’s childhood and adolescence in Birmingham, Ala. during the civil rights movement.

Which is worse? The Pentagon City Costco parking lot or Condoleezza Rice’s tenure as Secretary of State?

I say the parking lot, but it’s close.

  • Katie

Morale at the State Department has soared during Hillary Clinton’s tenure. And a lot of those folks are Republicans–it’s not partisan. Condi would demand that everyone shut their doors and vacate the hallways when she’d visit. Hillary walks around greeting people.

    • Dan

there are about 3 republicans at the state department… keep it real.

  • John Goilios

In addition to signing her book, she will be passing out free samples of Hebrew National’s new half smoke in aisle 24. Be sure to stop by and try one!

    • Frenchy B

Well done – I almost had coffee shooting out of my nose.

    • DT

Come on, John. Half smokes are half pork. She was passing out Oscar-Meyer.

  • el fat kid

    is she working there now?

she was up there with Michael Brown as far as being incompetent for the positions she held.

sure, make her ambassador to russia (new zealand would be preferable)… but man, she was a disaster as a manager and lacked the knowledge to respond quickly or provide any counter points to Cheney’s foreign policy agenda. tho i guess that is probably one of the reasons she got the job.

  • charlie

i might actually get a half-smoke if that were the case.

This is so embarrassing. And I can’t stand anything about Shrub and his tenure. But to have a former cabinet member in Costco signing books. Oh the humanity.

and that coupled with the article in todays post about the Cheney shooting cover-up.

I don’t look forward to explaining all this to my grandchildren.

    • Moishe

Sorry Charlie but former presidents Carter and Clinton have done signings in Costco. It’s the nature of today’s publishing world.

      • charlie

i didn’t know that. even more sad. you wouldn’t see Nixon, Kennedy or the Gipper doing that. sad.

        • Katie

I should hope not based on their current conditions.

          • Arlingtonian

            good point 😉

        • V Dizzle

Hate to be the one to break it, but they’re each in a ‘better place’ and probably not doing book signings (and I don’t mean they are in Target).

    • Interestingly, Laura Bush was signing books in the same Costco just a couple of months ago.

  • Texas Wahoo

Ms. Rice may not have been respected in the U.S., but from my dealings with foreigners (mainly in Asia), she was well respected as a stateman (stateswoman?).

    • Juanita

Because of all her concessions to China?

      • el fat kid

        +1

    • charlie

i always thought she could walk all over me with those boots of hers. yowza.

  • I was wondering why someone was walking to the Crystal City metro in the pouring rain with a huge stack of her book. Now I know.

  • Mbikesharing

maybe she is here to try out the new awesome Crystal City Bike Sharing?! I’m just saying…

“Morale at the State Department has soared during Hillary Clinton’s tenure.”

Not true. I have a family member working there. We’re both Dems. Hillary’s people are exasperating–big on long meetings, lots of talk, lots of BS, lots of underqualify friend of Hillary in high places not really getting much done other than rewarding sycophants and overworking everyone else. The same rampant cronyism that infected WJC’s otherwise productive administration.

DOS morale was recently highest under Colin Powell.

    • Katie

Powell–yes I heard that too. Interesting to hear about the cronyism.

    • TDU

Moral: If you go before the UN and lie through your teeth in order to invade a third-world country over their non-existent WMDs, you will be the most popular!

  • JohnB

Edit: Meant to type “underqualified friends.”

  • Clarendude

I just listened to her on C-SPAN talking about her book at the National Press Club. The book sounds interesting as does she and her family.
