Firefighters from Arlington County and surrounding communities are on scene of a fire in a Crystal City apartment building.
The fire broke out shortly before 1 p.m. on the 6th floor of the Crystal Flats building at 505 18th Street S. Initial reports suggest that a kitchen appliance somehow caught on fire inside one of the units.
Arriving firefighters reported thick smoke and the sprinkler system engaged, extinguishing most of the flames. No injuries have been reported.
As of 1:30 p.m. the fire was out but a large contingent of fire personnel were working to ventilate smoke from the structure. Drivers should expect some road and lane closures in the area.
The building was the scene of a construction accident in 2016, while it was being built.
