Candidates Attend Kiwanis Oyster Roast

The candidates for public office in Arlington from congress on down all made the rounds at the Kiwanis Oyster Roast and Barbeque Feast on Saturday night.

Notable at the event was the “entourage gap.” Republican congressional candidate Patrick Murray brought a bus, a van, a dozen supporters and a guy dressed in an elephant costume. Incumbent Jim Moran brought, as far as we could tell, his chief of staff and a couple of family members.

More photos after the jump.

  • Let’s Be Free

Moran has diverted his ground team and most likely a good chunk of walking around change to Gerry Connolly’s campaign in the 11th District. Despite being in a distinctly pro big government district Connolly is campaigning as a faux fiscal conservative and is struggling to hold on against an opponent whom he creamed in 2008.

  • Jersey Mike’s

In other news, I saw America’s most corrupt Congressman (now that Rep. Murtha has passed – RIP) holding court on S. Lee Street in Old Town Alexandria on Sunday night amongst the Halloween revelers. Ironically, instead of accepting donations from pay-to-play contractors he appeared to be posing for pictures for free!

    • South Arlington

I also saw Patrick Murray’s staff forcing red campaign balloons into 3 year olds hands there. Nothing better than politicizing children trick or treating.

From that picture I can see where Moran must get rid of some of his pork.
