Va. Transportation Chief: No Money For I-395 Improvements

Virginia’s transportation chief is gently nudging the federal government for road money while tweaking Arlington’s HOT Lanes lawsuit.

In an interview with WTOP, Transportation Secretary Sean Connaughton said that the planned shift of 6,400 Department of Defense jobs to Alexandria’s Mark Center is turning I-395 into a “military corridor.” He quickly added that the state does not have money for any major improvements to the highway, despite dire predictions of heavy congestion as a result of the Mark Center move.

Connaughton did, however, think of one possible way to relieve the congestion. He said a ramp to the center would be built as a result of the I-395 HOT Lanes project. A lawsuit filed by Arlington County is currently preventing the project from moving forward.

It is simply mind numbing that there can be a building the size of the one in Mark Center being built with no infrastructure improvements. That area cannot remotely handle 6400 more people on a daily basis. The whole BRAC thing is dumb enough but it gets dumber when you watch them build two giant complexes on 395 and 95. There have been zero issues with those people working in Crystal City and being on the metro lines. This whole thing just screams of government waster.

Brilliant! Turning 395 into a parking lot will really improve the security of DoD and the Washington area.

This will force the issue of 395. As for HOT lanes, all it will do is make 395 more congested around the 14th street bridge. What would work; carpooling.

There needs to be extra capacity on 395… whether that’s additional lanes or a light-rail up the 95-395 corridor. i’d rather have the light-rail, but something needs to be done.

If all these people are moving from Crystal City to the Mark Center now need extra lanes on a highway, why hasn’t there been a multilane highway between the Pentagon and Crystal City? I can’t believe that the people currently taking the metro between CC and the Pentagon would translate into two or more lanes on 395. This is just another big government earmark project.

Our staff have been reading in the newspapers and watching on the t.v. news that many peopls living in Leisure World and Langley Park are latino gang members family and friends working for al-quaida and are members of the ms-13, sur-13, latin kings and etc.. The gangs often go into apartment dwellings when the occupants are away and look for cash and funnel it to al-quaida operatives overseas so they can use the money for bombs and etc. and have to say that Leisure World as well as Langley Park apartments are holding several illegal immigrants that are dangerous criminals. The Arden Courts of Leisure World have relatives of ms-13s and al-quaida operatives hiding bags of money to send to al-quaida sleeper-cells overseas for violence against the US and Israel just to let everybody know. Any questions, call 301–xxx-xxxx or 240–xxx-xxxx for details about what to expect in the near future. Thank you!

    • We edited the phone numbers out of this comment but left it up for the amusement of sane, rational people.

  • Our staff want to inform the public that we had to hire extra security to soon protect our residents from certain outsiders because of some theft and violence during the cold winters and at night and according to the Gaithersburg, Rockville and the Montgomery County Police Departments, the illegal immigrants often hang out in Langley Park in several apartment complexes and some of them have family and friends in the Arden Courts section of Leisure World in the 3311 block of Leisure World Blvd. and in Leisure World, anything and everything goes because it is a retirement area and people take advantage of that. Gang members from Langley Park often hang out in Leisure World and sleep in the basement storage units to hide from police after committing a felony such as a robbery of a gas station and a carjacking of an elderly women in Silver Spring near the metro. I feel sorry for the innocent residents in Leisure World but they will have to look over their shoulders when they go somewhere. People climb over the fence looking for easy prey.
