Crumbs Bakeshop in Clarendon Closer to Opening

by ARLnow.com November 24, 2010 at 2:00 pm 5,170 13 Comments

The paper has come down from the windows of the new Crumbs Bakeshop in Clarendon, but the NYC-based cupcake chain still has not set a definitive opening date.

A peek inside the store reveals that there’s still interior work to be done. There is, however, a surprisingly comprehensive coffee and beverage menu posted.

A Crumbs rep tells us they’re “working hard” to open by Christmas.

When we reported on Crumb’s impending arrival in February, the company was projecting a May opening.

  • I like that the prices posted included tax – makes it much easier for people waiting in line to have exact change if they are just getting a drink.

  • Jason S

Including tax is very convenient, I have no idea why more restaurants do this. I can do without cupcakes though.

I don’t know what this “gourmet cupcake” fad in metro DC is all about but I’m over it already. They’re cupcakes. (does anyone know if this is a national phenomenon or is it just DC?)

    • rft

we’re about 6-8 years behind NYC on this

      • Diabetes

But is the fad national or not?

        • Greg

It’s national. We probably caught it the same time as everyone else (except NYC) or maybe a little later. Just look at the proliferation of cupcake shows on TV.

    • Jason S

I don’t know if it is national or local, but I do know that it is idiotic.

Top of the muffin, to you !

So, two cupcake shops within about two blocks of one another: Bakeshop and Crumbs. And, within view of Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, as well as Pain Quotedien. I’m no retailer but think its getting crowded.

All we need now is some shop to sell yellow tinted glasses to the douchebag population.

  • MikeC

Hey, it’s also closer to closing.

  • BrownUggs

    Is it open yet?

  • Golden Silence

Someone posted a comment on its Facebook page on Sunday (December 19) asking when it was going to open and they still don’t have a date. It doesn’t look like it’ll be open by Christmas, and I’m guessing New Year’s Day is a stretch…
