Storms Rip Through Area — A line of strong storms ripped through the area in the pre-dawn hours this morning. Winds in excess of 60 miles per hour were observed as the fast-moving storms passed by around 4:30 a.m. A tornado warning was issued for the region, but Arlington was spared from the worst of the storm damage. Expect showers, gusty winds and colder temperatures for the rest of the morning. [Washington Post]

Tejada Plans Ballston Rally — County board member Walter Tejada kicked off his re-election campaign over the weekend at the Dominion Hills Recreation Center. Tejada lauded the county’s commitments to affordable housing, walkable neighborhoods, and fiscal responsibility. He is now planning a rally in Ballston tomorrow — no word yet on when or where exactly the rally will take place. (Update at 12:20 p.m. — The rally will be held outside the NRECA building at 4301 Wilson Blvd at 6:30 p.m., prior to the Arlington County Democratic Committee meeting.)

New Signature Theatre Line-Up Announced — Signature Theatre’s upcoming 2011-2012 season schedule has been revealed. Among the shows planned are The Hollow, based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow; Hairspray, the 2003 Tony Award winner for best musical; Brother Russia, a rock musical about a “comically fourth-rate Russian theatre troupe;” and Xanadu, based on the 1980 cult film starring Olivia Newton-John. Clint Eastwood and Crew Drop By Arlington Home — Last week crews were busy scurrying about North Arlington filming scenes for the Leo DiCaprio-headlined production of  ‘J. Edgar.’ Among the locations where filming took place was kitchen of one family’s house. DiCaprio, director Clint Eastwood and dozens of crew members took over the Rasmussen family’s home to film one scene for the movie. [Washington Post]

Fiscal responsibility? Does anyone know if anyone else is running in the D primary for the county board election?

    • Burger

Common on. A billion dollars in debt is perfectly reasonable support to fiscal responsibility. Heck, we are so fiscally responsible in Arlington, we can blow 1 million dollars a year on a Artsphere no one wants to go to and blow what will likely be 1 billion on a trolley line that will require massive amounts of annual subsidies from the county coffers.

      • KalashniKEV

        1) ArtisFAIL
        2) Streetcar to the Ghetto
Don’t forget to add the Dog Resort and the Bum Mansion in a better zip code than the majority of folks paying for it can afford to live in.

Plus all the fiscally neutral foolishness like traffic impediments and sign ordinances.

      • Bluemontsince1961

        You said it, Burger!

    • Democrats for New Leadership

Walter re-elected – puhlease. Hold on to your wallets, taxpayers! His commitment to affordable housing is creating a new ghetto district in Buckingham villages. His walkable neighborhoods means you’re as likely to be assaulted with a deadly weapon as you are to reach Ballston or Virginia Square Metro stations. His fiscal responsibility means millions wasted on the trolley folly down Columbia Pike, millions taken out of general fund revenues for decades from creation of the Crystal City TIF (does Walter even understand what a TIF is and its negative impacts on the entire community?) And he reacted (erronously I might add) before understanding the implications of the Secure Communities initiative. If he had a time, it’s now past. It’s time for new leadership on this Board.

  • PikeHoo

Clint Eastwood is still da man.

    • South Arlington

Except for Hereafter. What a dreadful experience watching that movie was.

    • KalashniKEV

We should get him to stay and run for county government. He’s not taking any nonsense.

      • JamesE

I would vote for him if he ran as his character in Gran Torino.

        • CW

          +1

          • Overgrown Bush

            +2

        • KalashniKEV

          +1000

He IS his character from Gran Torino… that’s why he made it.

      • Dan

He was elected mayor of a California town.

  • Overgrown Bush

Note to INS: Drop by Ballson tomorrow.

  • BiArlington

Could the democratic party please find someone else to run againstTejada? No republican has a chance in this county, but it scares me that this man goes unchallenged with his horrible record. Walter Tejada piggybacks off of the accomplishments of the other County Board members. Other than supporting illegal immigrants and making our communities less secure, what else does he stand for?

    • Bluemontsince1961

      Completely agree, BiArlington.

  • GOB

Some lucky family gets to say, “Cool! Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer had simulated s*x in our kitchen!”

    • Who says it was simulated?
