Police Directing Traffic After Crash on Columbia Pike

by ARLnow.com April 5, 2011 at 10:40 am 2,652 18 Comments

Police are directing traffic at the intersection of Columbia Pike and S. Carlin Springs Road after a car crashed into a pole.

A black coupe suffered heavy front-end damage after slamming into the pole while heading eastbound on the Pike. Arlington firefighters were called in to help extricate the driver from the vehicle. The driver’s condition is not known at this time.

Stop lights are flashing at the intersection and Fairfax County police are directing traffic. Drivers should expect minor delays in the area.

    “A black couple”

Wow. I’m glad you all recognized how important that descriptor was to the story. Why didn’t you just include, “The driver’s condition is not known at this time, but they were probably visiting from Southeast DC or Prince George’s County.”

LOL LOL…I am laughing so hard right now…was that really a typo at some point, or did it always say “coupe” and GOB just can’t read?

      • JamesE

        pretty sure it said coupe

        • duran nor duran.

when making charges of racism details rarely matter.

Yep, “coupe”. I guess he missed the fact that his “couple” had “heavy front-end damage” so their condition was known.

    • It actually said “couple” in an unpublished draft version. Or, at least, I thought it was unpublished. The app I use to publish from Android is a bit buggy, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it somehow made it on the site for a short period of time.

As a side note, does anything scream “South Arlington” more than a single-car accident involving light pole and a black civic with no hubcaps? The picture is too low-res for me to tell how much of that paint job came from a spray can, but I’d guess at roughly 50%.

I know right? North Arlington is all about Audi SUVs on their roofs.

        • JamesE

Does it have flames and sweet port holes?

This is an ’81 Honda! How dare you!

Ok, that makes sense. I was the first commenter and I read and re-read the story before pointing out the appearance of “black couple.” In hindsight, I have to laugh–I’m confident my mind would’ve automatically translated “couple” to “coupe” if it had been preceded by “red” or “blue”.

Of no particular significance, it appears that Fairfax County police use Henry’s towing.

  • Tabby

I like the “Relax” sign above the wreck. Maybe it’s to blame.

  • Southeast Ben

“If this were PGC…” the county police would probably be receiving kickbacks from Henry. Kidding.

My God, that car looks exactly like one belonging to my ex-neighbors in Alcova Heights. If it has MD tags, it certainly is. At the time I moved out, they had been there almost a year, with MD tags and no county sticker.
