Ann Taylor Store Opens in Clarendon

A new Ann Taylor store opened in Clarendon over the weekend.

The store — not to be confused with Clarendon’s existing Ann Taylor Loft store — is located in the Market Common Clarendon shopping center. It replaced the shuttered Myer-Emco electronics store.

The women’s wear retailer was offering coupons to customers who stopped by over the weekend.

Well thank god. That plaza (and in fact Clarendon) was in desperate need of a second Ann Taylor store. And yes I know it’s technically different, but still.

On a related note, would someone PLEASE open a bagel shop in Clarendon? I like Brooklyn in Courthouse, but it’d be nice to have one closer amid all the pizza and froyo.

I’m hoping for a dunkin donuts

        Waffle House!

        • MC 703

I know this will never happen but Waffle House would be great. It would be nice to have a more casual, bare bones option to typical Clarendon brunch without driving out to the burbs or going to the Ihop on Fairfax.

You know there’s an IHOP in Ballston, right?

          • Josh S

That would be the IHOP on Fairfax.

      • R. Griffon

Dear lord no. I can barely fit into my work pants as it is.

The Dunkin Doughnuts bakery next to Mario’s is seriously missed, although replacement by a Krispy Kream would be appriciated. Hot Doughnuts NOW! please…..

        • CrystalMikey

          Mmm…Krispy Kreme.

        • Gibby

Amen. This was one of our hangouts in high school. Good ol’ Mohammad Islam…. As if we don’t have enough chicken places….

  • Vinh An Nguyen

    Cupcakes are the new doughnuts.

  • Novanglus

Alas, Ann Taylor can afford the rent. Krispy Kreme and Waffle House can’t.

    • CW

Just sell the donuts for $3 each like cupcakes and don’t tell anyone that they’re usually 69 cents anywhere else…problem solved…

We have enough food and clothing stores. We need more diversity in the form of art galleries or novelty gift shops or something. Everything else is either food or clothing or furniture. The one art gallery we had is now the Red Mango, which is nice, but not exactly unique for our neighborhood.

Enough about Ann Taylor. When is the Trader Joe’s in Clarendon going to start construction. That lease was signed several months ago and there has been absolutely no work to build out that space. It is now late spring and, at this pace, I can’t see that that store would open any sooner than maybe late September, even if they were to start building it today.

It blows my mind that TJ’s has not bullied their way into getting this going, but an ARLnow followup story from a couple weeks ago indicated that construction was hung up due to permit issues.

god no! no more chain restaurants in arlington!!

  • AW

where is the TJs going to be in Clarendon? I wish they’d build one in Shirlington.
