A car caught fire in a Clarendon parking lot around 4:00 this afternoon.

The car was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, near the intersection of Fairfax Drive and 10th Street N. Thick black smoke could be seen rising into the sky around the Clarendon and Virginia Square area.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. There were no reports of injuries. No word yet on a cause.

      Looks kinda like a Starion.

      • Z

I saw a close-up photo, it does look like a foxbody Mustang.

    law student car bombing?

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!! Somebody found parking in Clarendon?

    • charlie

      good point.
      it really is VaSquare anyways.

      • Geographer

East of the 10th/Fairfax/Kirkwood intersection is Clarendon

        • charlie

sure. that’s just a line on a map.
          it is still VaSq.

          • Actually

There was no VA Square area before they put a Metro stop there. It was Clarendon for decades. I dont’ see why it shouldn’t still be Clarendon.

          • charlie

actually Virgina Square refers to a shopping center that is NOW GONE because of Metro.

Clarendon seeps into everything doesn’t it?

    • CW

Actually parking during the day is pretty darn easy.

      • charlie

at night too. and on Saturdays when going to Fresh Fields.
still way too much parking around.

    I’m tellin’ y’all…

  • Clarendon

Probably flicked a cigarette out the window before pulling in to park, but it didn’t make it to the pavement but to the back seat.

More likely that the ancient gas line finally cracked through after 25 years of thermal expansion and contraction and exposure to the elements.

    I love a good old-fashioned Car-B-Que!

  • steve

what car is it? I know some said it was a 1980s style mustang, but the Prius next to it makes it blurred. Is it a Mitsubish Starion? If so, that sucks, I loved those cars.. The predecessor of the Eclipse.

Hey now… don’t look at us. We’re just enjoying our last few days of flip-flop weather.

Saw it on the flatbed in Shirlington — late 80’s convertible 6 cylinder mustang. No great loss. It did have a personalized plate that said something about “always sunny” that struck me as ironic, though . . .

Looks like a Delorean to me.
