Meeting to Address Improvements on Columbia Pike

by Katie Pyzyk October 25, 2011 at 2:55 pm 2,058 9 Comments

The Columbia Pike Implementation Team is holding a meeting tonight, and anyone interested in the Pike’s future is welcome to attend.

The focus will be on the progress of the Columbia Pike Multimodal Street Improvements Project and what should be done next to reach its goals. The county started the project to analyze transportation along the 3.5 mile Columbia Pike corridor, and suggest improvements for pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and offer feedback on the recommended design. It’s tonight from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Walter Reed Community Center (2909 S. 16th St.).

More information on the Columbia Pike Multimodal Street Improvements Project can be found here.

They could always petition God for some more real estate because quite frankly there is precious little to work with. Walking on the Pike by the ski chalet is always fun.

Start by forcing the ONLY language to be spoken anywhere on the Pike to be English. Can the idea of a streetcar….dumb idea UNLESS you turn the Pike into a pedestrian/streetcar boulevard and get all vehicular traffic off the road. Widen the sidewalks for cafe seating.

Are you suggesting making non-English conversation to be illegal without some set distance of Columbia Pike?

That pesky Constitution’s not his concern.

It would be nice if you could force all business signs to be in English. That would be a start. I would suppose you’d have to declare English to be the official language of the United States, and I’m not sure that has been done (yet).

If you don’t speak or read English, how do you pass a drivers test? You can’t read the signs. I realize they give them in Spanish also, but all road signs are in English. No wonder Arlington has so many poor drivers.

This is the first notification I’ve had about this meeting, and, unfortunately, it falls on my Clarendon Ballroom dance night.

First time I hear of it too and the meeting’s over. They must not want too much of the Pike residents input…

Anyone go or have notes from this meeting to share? I was unable to attend, but am certainly interested in the discussion!
