Power Outage Affecting Parts of S. Arlington

(Updated at 3:25 p.m.) At least 150 Dominion customers are reported to be without power in parts of South Arlington this afternoon.

Some traffic signals are dark along the eastern end of Columbia Pike as a result of the outage. Police have set up cones at the intersection of Columbia Pike and S. Joyce street, preventing traffic on both roads from making left turns.

It’s unclear what caused the outage or when exactly power might be restored.

    Cue Streetcar comments.

Just negotiated the dark intersections at S. Quinn, Navy Annex & S. Joyce. Folks – once again – aren’t treating the dark lights as stop signs. It’s a Feces Festival.

    • PikerShorts

      Is it dark in Nauck?

No seriously, I live in Dolley Madison Towers.

      • WeiQiang

No. Not that close. The lights near Penrose on Columbia Pike, from S. Scott on west are fine. Don’t know about the apts/condos/other residences along CoPi.

As precautionary measure, I might go online and order a gas generator from Home Depot. jk

        • MyHood

Can I just say my heart siezed up in terror at the words “power outage” and “south arlington.” I really am going to buy that generator. I just haven’t had time yet.

          • WeiQiang

How many extension cords between your house and mine? 😎

          • MyHood

            I’d say at least 7.

You live at the DMT? We used to call that place the DMZ! I hope they cleaned it up.

        • PikerShorts

Yeah it’s great. They apparently , in 2007, shut it down for 18 months, kicked out the condo tenants and tore everything apart. Been there for 2 years and never seen a big / rodent or had a single problem. Feels like an upscale, high rent building when you walk in the lobby / around the property.

Only downside is parking and Marymount students trashing the elevators occasionally on weekends.

I think I found you on Yelp.

What about laundry in the basement? Is there an option for laundry in the units? The parking has always been limited, but I heard they put up a parking deck.

      Feces Festival.. +1

      • WeiQiang

… or, for those inclined along CoPi, a Feces Fiesta.

      • Duder3

Nice alliteration, but I believe the more accurate description would be “coital labyrinth.” Or perhaps “non-patterened fornication aggregation.”

        • Playacinth

i think he was riffing off Sh*t Show

        • BRILLIANT! “non-patterned fornication aggregation” is spectacular. hope you don’t mind that i’m totally stealing it. =)

At 3:45pm, the cones were still blocking turns; but, the traffic lights were flashing, not dark.

  • WeiQiang

There were crews – maybe affiliated with the Wash Blvd/CoPi project, maybe not – digging along CoPi. Maybe they encountered one of those unanticipated/unidentified underground objects.

  • nunya

squirrel b q? one of those critters crawl into a transformer again?

    • drax

      Time for a squirrel roundup!

  • Trapper John

As long as the Days Inn on Columbia Pike has power I’m good 🙂

  • NoVapologist

South Arlington has electric power? Are they going to be getting running water too?

    • 22207

Only what runs down from the north into the sewage treatment plant.

  • DarkHeart

As long as Bob and Edith and Pedro and Vinny are OK, there is no need to panic.

  • Dezlboy

The crew building the Super (Trolley) Stop at Col Pike near S Walter Reed may have servered a power line. 🙂

    • PikerShorts

      Too easy. -1

  • novasteve

Given all the murders, there’s probably been a body stuffed in a power station causing this outage.

    • Ralph

Probably somebody who was smoking too many cigarettes. They should outlaw them.

    • Glebe Roader

Wow, you’re funny NS ….. NOT.

  • WeiQiang

… but is the power back on at Quincy Plaza?
