Arlington Pet of the Week: Max

Our latest Arlington Pet of the Week is Max, a cat who doesn’t have a tail.

The 14-year-old feline is happily retired, but still has the disposition of a younger cat, or, as his owner says, perhaps a dog. Here’s what owner Jennifer had to say about him:

Max is a 14 year old, black and white Manx. And no, he did not lose his tail in a fight (my thought when I first saw him). The absence of a tail is just a very distinguishing characteristic of his breed.

We adopted Max four years ago from a close friend, so we like to say he is living his retired life with us. Retired from what you ask? Max was originally born in Arizona and has lived in Arlington since he was about two. He used to spend most of his time outside ‘running’ the local neighborhood – chasing squirrels, hunting crickets and scuffling a time or two with the other neighborhood cats. Now that he is older he spends most of time bathing in the sun on our back patio, taking naps, begging for belly rubs and salmon treats, and constantly ‘talking’ to us with his loud meow.

Max has such a loving personality and wants nothing more than to be close to us. And when I say close, I mean lying on your chest and putting his cute little nose right in your face. He has such a personality that sometimes we forget he’s a cat! His behavior is more similar to a dog. He wants to be let outside and inside over and over again, he wants to play with his cat nip toys and chase a long piece of string and he always wants to sleep snuggled in right between us. We adore his company and are so thankful Max found his way into our lives.

The Arlington Pet of the Week is sponsored by Dogma Bakery, located at Shirlington Village (2772 S. Arlington Mill Drive) and, coming soon, a new location at 5157-A Lee Highway.

Want your pet to be considered for the Arlington Pet of the Week? Email [email protected] with a 2-3 paragraph bio and at least 3-4 horizontally-oriented photos of your pet. Each week’s winner receives a $25 Dogma gift card.

Unlike our competitors, Well-Paid Maids doesn’t clean your home with harsh chemicals. Instead, we handpick cleaning products rated “safest” by the Environmental Working Group, the leading rating organization regarding product safety.

The reason is threefold.

First, using safe cleaning products ensures toxic chemicals won’t leak into waterways or harm wildlife if disposed of improperly.

Second, it’s better for you and your family. Fragrant chemicals in surface cleaners can expose you to a similar amount of pollutant particles as a busy city road, New Scientist reported.
