Arlington Pet of the Week: Ginger

Becky's Pet Care

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Ginger, a Chihuahua mix from Dominion Hills.

Here is what her owner Julie had to say about her:

Ginger is a spirited Chihuahua mix whose claim to fame is that she came in dead last in the local Running of the Chihuahuas race for two years in a row.

Regardless of her lack of a need for speed, Ginger is well loved by her family and she reciprocates this affection the best way she knows how — by providing puppy kisses, especially to the unsuspecting.

At nearly 7 years old and still seemingly unaware of her small size, Ginger has proven to be an effective watch dog. She zealously guards the house in an ongoing fight against the paper invasion- otherwise known as the mail delivery.

Starting out as a young pup, Ginger was eager to earn her keep in the house so she quickly took  up the role of kitchen floor sweeper, meaning that any time something remotely edible touches the kitchen floor, she sweeps it into her mouth. Just like with her home security efforts, Ginger has attempted to raise the bar with her kitchen duties.

There was one particular time when Ginger decided her kitchen cleaning efforts would be more productive if she bypassed waiting for food to fall to the floor. This was the day that she managed to jump up on a chair by the kitchen table and proceeded to eat half of a pound cake on the center of the table before the rest of the family could intervene.

When she’s not guarding the front door or acting as a canine kitchen Roomba, Ginger likes to curl up with her favorite blanket on the living room couch. If you see Ginger during one of her walks in the Dominion Hills neighborhood, feel free to come over and say hi!
