UPDATED: Police standoff reported in Pentagon City mall garage

Arlington County police were reportedly engaged in a standoff with a pair of criminal suspects in a parking garage Tuesday afternoon.

The incident started just after 4 p.m. on the P5 level of the Pentagon City mall garage, when a vehicle with two suspects inside allegedly rammed a police cruiser and refused officer commands to get out of the car.

A standoff ensued, with officers awaiting the arrival of negotiators and a SWAT team, according to initial reports. The mall and the garage remained open.

Local public safety watcher Dave Statter reported that the incident might be related to a stolen vehicle.

As of 4:40 p.m., ACPD said the suspects had been detained.

In a summary of the incident released Wednesday, police said both suspects are now facing weapons and drug dealing charges. Additionally, one was wanted by federal authorities.
