New bubble tea shop and sushi restaurant set to open side by side in Clarendon

Clarendon may be getting another boba tea shop and a new sushi joint.

A little over a year after ObyLee Winery and Coffee Shop closed, a new tenant filed a permit to open a bubble tea shop called Bobolicious in the same space, per county records.

The new bubble tea shop owner, April Luong, told ARLnow they intend to open sometime this spring.

“We are still waiting for the final inspection,” she said in a text. “Grand opening will probably be in a month or two.”

There are already a few boba tea spots nearby, including two Kung Fu Tea locations in Clarendon and Ballston Quarter and a Gong Cha in Rosslyn.

Public records also suggest that a new sushi restaurant named Sushi Jip plans to open next door to the latest bubble tea shop, replacing Endo Sushi. The owner appears to have been previously associated with a sushi restaurant in Centreville, records and a social media post show.

An employee of Endo Sushi confirmed that the restaurant is being sold to a new owner. They mentioned that the sale could be finalized as soon as next month.

However, the new eatery will face some stiff competition, as there are currently several other sushi establishments in the area, including Sakaki Izakaya, Asahi and Takeshi Sushi.

Additionally, two other Japanese restaurants, Wagamama and Kanji Izakaya, are expected to open this spring. The latter, in Ballston, is currently holding a soft opening.
