ACPD: Man seriously injured after being attacked while walking through Ballston

Arlington County police are investigating a late night attack in Ballston.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday on the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive, near the Metro station. According to police, a man approached the victim from behind “and struck him with an unknown object before fleeing the scene on foot.”

The victim was seriously injured and the suspect remains at large.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, the incident does not appear random and a dispute [preceded] the incident,” ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2024-04300008, 4200 block of Fairfax Drive. At approximately 1:02 a.m. on April 30, police were dispatched to the report of an assault with injury. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim was walking in the area when the unknown male suspect approached him from behind and struck him with an unknown object before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. A perimeter was established and responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect yielding negative results. The suspect is described as an unknown race male with black hair, wearing all dark clothing. The investigation is ongoing.

Also on Tuesday, a woman allegedly broke into a man’s apartment in the Arlington Mill neighborhood through a window and tried to stab him. The 24-year-old suspect also struck the victim with a rock, according to police.

ATTEMPTED AGGRAVATED MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2024-04300224, 900 block of S. Dinwiddie Street. At approximately 5:58 p.m. on April 30, police were dispatched to the report of a dispute. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim was inside his residence when he heard noise and observed the female suspect, who is known to him, allegedly attempting to enter through a window. The victim confronted the suspect during which a struggle ensued and the suspect struck the victim with a rock, brandished a knife and attempted to strike him with it. The victim briefly left to seek assistance and the suspect made entry into the home, took electronics and food items before leaving the residence. Responding officers located the suspect in the area and took her into custody. The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. [The suspect], 24, of No Fixed Address, was arrested and charged with Attempted Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Assault and Battery and Burglary. She was held without bond.
