Quick response leads to arrest of alleged scooter thief

A D.C. man is facing multiple charges after police say he was caught with stolen scooters in the Rosslyn area.

The incident happened just before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when someone called police to report a man stealing electric scooters from a residential building’s bike storage room.

A responding officer located a man matching the description of the suspect and a foot chase ensued, leading to the man’s arrest, Arlington County police said. Stolen property and burglary tools were reportedly recovered.

BURGLARY, 2024-05070025, 1700 block of N. Pierce Street. At approximately 3:23 a.m. on May 7, police were dispatched to the report of burglary in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined a witness observed the male suspect allegedly force entry into a secured residential bike storage room, steal two electric scooters and chargers and flee the scene. A lookout was broadcast and an officer located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area. The suspect ran from the officer and, with the assistance of additional arriving officers, he was taken into custody. The stolen items were recovered and during a search of the suspect incident to arrest, burglarious tools were recovered. [The suspect], 50, of Washington, DC was arrested and charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Destruction of Property and Possession of Burglarious Tools. He was without bond.
