UPDATED: S. Glebe Road blocked by crash and rescue

The driver of a car was rescued after a crash on S. Glebe Road.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. on Glebe near 19th Street S., in the Green Valley area. All lanes of S. Glebe Road were closed as of publication time.

The driver of a Kia involved in the crash was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters, according to scanner traffic. The vehicle came to rest on a sidewalk adjacent to the northbound lanes.

No word yet on what caused the crash. The person who was trapped was expected to be transported via ambulance to a local hospital for unspecified injuries.

As of shortly before 3 p.m., the wrecked car had been towed and Glebe Road was back open.
