A 45-year-old man from Falls Church was arrested Sunday and charged in a serious hit-and-run crash that was caught on camera.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. Sunday in the southbound lanes of I-395 near the Pentagon.

Video posted on social media by local public safety watcher Dave Statter shows a van ramming the back of a motorcycle in the left-hand lane of the highway. The motorcyclist falls to the ground and skids down the roadway, while the van keeps driving.

The video then shows fellow motorcyclists giving chase to the striking driver, followed by the arrival of police and medics.

Virginia State Police said today (Tuesday) that the motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The suspect was identified and arrested later that day thanks to “information provided by a witness to the crash,” according to VSP.

The suspect was in custody at the Arlington County Detention Center today, according to jail records.

The annual Rolling to Remember motorcycle rally was held this past weekend, with a large gathering in the Pentagon North Parking Lot on Sunday morning. It was not immediately clear whether the victim was a participant.
