Today marks the start of the Memorial Day weekend and the return of Arlington’s spraygrounds.
The kid-oriented water features at county parks are open for the season as of today — Friday, May 24. All spraygrounds will operate from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. through Monday, the county says, before returning to normal hours on Tuesday.
The spraygrounds are located at Drew, Hayes, Lyon Village, Mosaic, Penrose Square and Virginia Highlands parks. They are scheduled to operate through Labor Day weekend.
This weekend will also see a few closures for the Memorial Day holiday. While trash, recycling and yard waste will be collected on Monday as normal, county offices, community centers, libraries and schools will be closed.
Additionally, parking meters will not be enforced on Monday. ART buses will operate on a modified schedule and the Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will have abbreviated hours, from 6 a.m.-2 p.m.
Another Memorial Day weekend happening of interest to Arlington residents: the return of the Rolling to Remember motorcycle rally.
The rally has its main hotel room block at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Crystal City and will, as before, congregate in the Pentagon’s North Parking Lot on Sunday morning. The Memorial Bridge will then close for a demonstration ride to the National Mall around noon.
