NEW: Another bear has been spotted in a North Arlington neighborhood

Update on 6/10/24 — There have been more bear sightings in the Donaldson Run and Cherrydale neighborhoods.

Update at 7 p.m. — It appears that the bear — or, at least, a bear — is making its way south. An ARLnow reader sent photos of the bear from the 2200 block of N. Pollard Street, about three blocks from Dorothy Hamm Middle School.

Earlier: A young black bear has been roaming around a north Arlington neighborhood this weekend.

The bear has been spotted in and around the Bellevue Forest neighborhood — near Donaldson Run, the Gulf Branch Trail and Potomac Overlook Regional Park. It has been seen roaming through yards, searching through trash cans and, at one point, napping in a tree.

While the bear is seemingly gentle-mannered, wildlife experts caution people to keep their distance and to secure pets and food sources when a bear is in the area.

Last month another young black bear was seen roaming across a large swath of north Arlington. Last week a bear was found dead in a plastic bag near Rosslyn; it was reportedly struck by a driver along I-66 and dumped by a road crew along the side of the highway.
