Clarendon UPS Store closes, citing redevelopment plans for office building

The UPS Store in Clarendon has closed its doors ahead of proposed changes to the building.

A series of tipsters have contacted ARLnow in recent days about the store’s closure at 3033 Wilson Blvd, next to the just-opened Láylí Mediterranean restaurant.

“Tried to send a package today and I found this on the door,” an emailer said of a posted sign. “Sucks. This was an easy in and out.”

The notice asks patrons to visit other UPS Store locations in Arlington, at 2200 Wilson Blvd in Courthouse, 4201 Wilson Blvd in Ballston and 4532 Langston Blvd in the Lee Heights Shops.

A sign on the door suggests that the building is being redeveloped.

“After proudly serving the Clarendon community for over 12 years, this location has closed due to redevelopment plans by the landlord,” the sign says.

In May, a tipster told ARLnow the office building, constructed in 1987 and also known as Clarendon Square, will be torn down as part of a residential redevelopment.

“The commercial building at 3033 Wilson Blvd is being demolished and replaced with residential,” the tipster said. “Tenants were given notice that leases would be cut short. The UPS store’s last day is around June 22, 2024 and business mailbox customers were sent a notice.”

An email to an executive for building owner Carr Properties seeking confirmation has not been returned. But a plan for changes to the property was filed with Arlington County earlier this week.

“A Special Exception Site Plan application for that address was submitted on June 24,” a spokesman for the Dept. of Community Planning, Housing and Development confirmed to ARLnow.

Commercial leasing site LoopNet, meanwhile, shows no listings for the building.

The exact plan was not yet available for inspection at the CPHD office this morning.
