Firefighters are battling a blaze at a postal facility near Shirlington.
They were dispatched to 2565 Shirlington Road in Green Valley around 10:45 a.m. after receiving multiple calls about a dumpster that was on fire next to a building. The address corresponds with the U.S. Postal Service Shirlington Annex.
Fire from the dumpster spread to the overhang roof of the building and a second alarm was dispatched. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish some hard-to-get-to flames, according to scanner traffic. The fire also reportedly spread to a rental truck briefly, but those flames were quickly extinguished.
Firefighters on scene have requested that Shirlington Road be shut down between Kemper Road and 24th Road S.
