Arlington’s third Goodwill location on 5210 Langston Blvd is “not likely” to open later this month, as was previously reported.
The new Goodwill Donation Express will serve primarily as a spot for donation drop-offs, selling “a very limited amount of merchandise.” The operation was previously scheduled to open its doors on Sunday, Aug. 25 — according to a press release Wednesday — but “a few structural issues” still need to be addressed before doors can open, Goodwill spokesperson Brendan Hurley told ARLnow.
“Goodwill of Greater Washington is proud to be adding another donation center in Arlington County to help fund our nonprofit mission,” Hurley said. “94 cents out of every dollar we earn from the sale of donated goods goes towards our education and employment services, so every item donated to Goodwill will have a positive and measurable impact on our local community.”
When it opens, the donation center will replace Tops Cleaners, which has relocated to 5056 Langston Blvd. This will be Goodwill’s second Donation Express in the D.C. area, joining another location in Herndon.
Goodwill of Greater Washington previously told ARLnow that it selected the new space for its location on a major thoroughfare and for being more convenient to more Arlington donors. The organization currently has two other locations in Arlington, both south of Arlington Blvd: one store at 4714 Columbia Pike and one store and donation center on 10 S. Glebe Road.
The S. Glebe Road site, one of the busiest Goodwill locations in the country, is scheduled to be redeveloped as an affordable housing complex with an expanded retail and donation center on its bottom two floors. Goodwill plans to break ground on the new facility by summer 2025 and hopes to open a renovated store by the end of 2026.
