JUST IN: Yorktown High School evacuated due to recurring gas smell

For the third time in a week, firefighters are investigating the smell of gas at Yorktown High School.

The school was evacuated around 10:30 a.m. this morning due to the gas odor and has dismissed early, Arlington Public Schools confirmed to ARLnow.

The Arlington County Fire Department was also dispatched to the school last week and earlier this week due to a gas smell.

“There was a gas leak on Thursday that was fixed,” APS spokesman Frank Bellavia told ARLnow Tuesday afternoon, after the second incident. “There was no gas leak detected [Tuesday]. Someone thought they smelled gas but the Fire Department found nothing.”

It’s unclear whether the odor today is from natural gas or another source.
