NEW: Four teens in custody on weapons charges after police operation

Police officers in tactical gear, armored vehicles, and — reportedly — a drone descended on Arlington’s Green Valley neighborhood early Wednesday.

The operation, as described to ARLnow by one local resident, happened around 5:30 a.m. and also involved at least one K-9 unit.

Asked about it, an Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman said four juvenile suspects were taken into custody on weapons charges. Little additional information was immediately available.

“As part of an ongoing criminal investigation, police executed search and arrest warrants in the 3200 block of 24th Street S. and the 2000 block of S. Lincoln Street,” ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow. “Four juvenile suspects are in police custody and charged with various weapons-related offenses.”

“To ensure the integrity of the ongoing criminal investigation and in accordance with Virginia Code § 16.1-301, no additional details are available for release,” Savage added.

She noted that the operation was not related to the investigation into the Sept. 2 shooting in the Arlington View neighborhood. One arrest has already been announced in that case.
