ACPD: Arrest made in Arlington View shooting

Arlington County police just announced an arrest in the Monday afternoon shooting in the Arlington View neighborhood.

Police say two groups of people were engaged in a dispute when “suspects from each group brandished and discharged firearms.” No injuries were reported.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting, ACPD announced Tuesday night. More, below, from a press release.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating a shooting that took place in the Columbia Heights neighborhood on the afternoon of September 2.

At approximately 1:56 p.m. on September 2, police responded to the 1200 block of S. Ross Street for multiple reports of shots heard in the area. The preliminary investigation indicates two groups became involved in a verbal dispute during which suspects from each group brandished and discharged firearms. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

One group fled the scene in a vehicle. The other group ran from the scene and responding officers located and detained them in the 1300 block of S. Scott Street. During the course of the investigation, a firearm was recovered.

Patrick Nya, 26, of No Fixed Address was arrested and charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Attempted Shooting Missiles at an Occupied Vehicle.

This remains an active criminal investigation.
