Ceremonies in remembrance of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will be taking place in Arlington tomorrow.
A wreath-laying ceremony hosted by the county will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Bozman Government Center in Courthouse.
Arlington County Fire Department Capt. David Santini will deliver remarks in the outdoor plaza at 2100 Clarendon Blvd, and a moment of silence will be held at 9:37 a.m. — the time at which American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon, claiming 184 lives.
“Arlington County Government invites the community to join neighbors, County leaders and staff, and first responders as we commemorate the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and express gratitude to those who responded that day,” a press release says.
Another ceremony will be taking place at the Pentagon and livestreamed on C-SPAN beginning at 9 a.m. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown will host the observance ceremony acknowledging the 23rd anniversary of the attacks.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are also scheduled to visit the Pentagon — in addition to the World Trade Center site in New York City and Shanksville, Pa., where a flight bound for D.C. crashed after its passengers overpowered hijackers.
The annual Arlington Police, Fire, Sheriff and ECC 9/11 Memorial Race, which raises proceeds in support of first responders, military personnel and victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, took place this past weekend.
Around Arlington, there are also displays in memory of that fateful day.
Large American flags drape the Pentagon and various local office buildings. In Pentagon City, meanwhile, a temporary exhibit featuring original photography and video, as well as 9/11-related items donated by local firehouses and firefighters, will remain open on the ground floor of the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, near Nordstrom, until Sept. 30.
