Arlington’s annual 9/11 5K race is returning to Pentagon City next month — this year looking to finally pass $1 million in total donations.
The Arlington Police, Fire, Sheriff and ECC 9/11 Memorial Race — which donates all proceeds to organizations that support first responders, military personnel and victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks — will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7. The run has generated a total of over $950,000 since it began in 2002.
Over the past two years, the race donated more than $150,000 to the Boulder Crest Foundation, which assists members of the military, veterans and first responders with trauma-related challenges.
This year’s 5K will start at 6 p.m., with runners following a 3.1-mile route that winds around the Pentagon. The course begins and ends at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Crystal City, located at 300 Army Navy Drive.
Refreshments will be provided after the race, including free beer for runners aged 21 and older. Two different DJs will be in attendance, as well as a variety of food trucks.
Online registration is available up until the day of the race.
