ACPD: Intoxicated shoplifter fought officer inside Clarendon Metro station

A 29-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly fighting police inside a Metro station.

The incident started around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday with a report of a shoplifter — described as a man with tattoos on his face — threatening employees at the CVS at 3141 Wilson Blvd in Clarendon.

A responding officer located someone fitting the suspect’s description inside the Metro station and tried to take them into custody, leading to a physical struggle, according to Arlington County police. That struggle, in turn, prompted a large police response to the station.

The man now faces charges including shoplifting, assault on police, and narcotics possession.

ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2024-09180142, 3100 block of Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 3:38 p.m. on September 18, police were dispatched to the report of a larceny just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect entered the business and allegedly began concealing merchandise during which an employee confronted him. The suspect subsequently exited the store without payment and fled the scene on foot. A lookout was broadcast and a responding officer located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the Clarendon Metro. The officer issued commands to the suspect, who was noncompliant and actively resisted arrest, during which the suspect grabbed the officer. With the assistance of additional responding officers, the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention. During the course of the investigation, suspected narcotics were recovered. [The suspect], 29, of No Fixed Address was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Shoplifting, Obstruction of Justice, Possession of Schedule III/IV/V/VI Substance and Public Intoxication. He was held without bond.
