A man accused of carrying out a spate of armed robberies across the D.C. area — including four in Arlington — has been arrested.
Antonio Kingsbury, 36, is accused of committing at least 17 armed robberies between Jan. 9 and Nov. 7, including at several establishments along Columbia Pike, according to federal prosecutors.
Court documents allege that Kingsbury targeted the Subway restaurant at 3045 Columbia Pike twice, on June 9 and Oct. 3. He is also accused of committing an armed robbery at the Tobacco Hut at 4107 Columbia Pike on Oct. 18.
Additionally, prosecutors allege he was involved in a Nov. 6 robbery of an ABC store on Columbia Pike, although information included about the incident is “preliminary in nature.”
In all of these cases, Kingsbury reportedly pulled out a gun and demanded money from a cash register.
The Columbia Pike establishments are only a few of the businesses Kingsbury is accused of robbing throughout the Washington region. Other alleged targets included restaurants, a cellphone store, multiple 7-Eleven stores, a tobacco store and locations of Starbucks, Chipotle and Popeyes.
Law enforcement compared posts on Kingsbury’s Instagram account with store surveillance footage, matching a pair of grey New Balance sneakers and a black jacket, a statement of facts says.
He was arrested at his D.C. home last Friday and charged with interference with interstate commerce by robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Kingsbury is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for a detention hearing tomorrow (Friday).
