It’s the end of an era for a popular Clarendon coffee shop.
After nearly a decade in business at 3003 Washington Blvd, Peet’s Coffee is closing on Sunday, Nov. 24, the company confirmed with ARLnow.
“We recently made the difficult decision to close the Clarendon store given our lease is coming to an end, with the last day of business being Sunday, 11/24,” a Peet’s spokesperson said in an email. “We have offered all our employees continued employment at neighboring locations, and sincerely hope that they will continue to work for Peet’s.”
In the cafe’s waning weeks, a sign posted in the window indicated a change in store hours. Peet’s hours are now 6 a.m.-2 p.m., seven days a week.
A tipster first alerted ARLnow to the upcoming closure over the weekend.
“It’s hard to believe, because this place is always packed, but it’s going to be a big loss for those of us locals who frequent for coffee and use it as a gathering place,” they wrote.
Peet’s opened on Washington Blvd in spring 2015. The California-based coffee chain has another Arlington outpost in Shirlington and several more across the D.C. area.
News of the planned closure comes shortly after New York-style diner UnCommon Luncheonette closed its doors on the same block in September.
