UnCommon Luncheonette in Clarendon appears to have closed

A New York-style diner in Clarendon looks to have closed after two years in business.

Signage on the door of UnCommon Luncheonette at 1028 N. Garfield Street states the restaurant is “closed today,” but the sign has been in place for multiple days. Phone calls to the restaurant, which normally opens daily at 7 a.m., also went unanswered.

Additionally, according to the state’s business entity search, a limited liability corporation with the same name has been categorized as “Pending Inactive” after failing to make an annual registration payment earlier this summer.

A tipster told ARLnow last week that the business had “shut down for good.”

The restaurant initially opened in April 2022 as a place for breakfast, brunch and lunch.

“We fashion ourselves as a typical New York-style diner,” co-owner Joon Yang previously told ARLnow. “We’re going to open at 7 in the morning and people walking by are going to see this bright light glowing from a corner.”

The restaurant added dinner service back in June.

If UnCommon Luncheonette is officially gone for good, it would be the latest business to last only a brief time at 1028 N. Garfield Street. Healthy fast-casual eatery Bowl’d lasted two years at that address between 2015 and 2017, while Riverside Hot Pot closed in October 2020 after a little over a year in business.
