JUST IN: Man shot in Green Valley overnight

A man was shot in the Green Valley neighborhood early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. near Drew Elementary School and the intersection of 23rd Street S. and S. Kenmore Street. It followed reports of a group of people arguing in the area, though the exact circumstances leading to the shooting are unclear.

Initial reports suggest the victim was shot in the arm.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating a shooting that took place in the Green Valley neighborhood during the early morning hours of November 16, 2024.

At approximately 2:47 a.m., police were dispatched to the report of shots heard in the area and subsequently determined a shooting occurred near the intersection of 23rd Street S. and S. Kenmore Street. Responding officers located the adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound and rendered aid. He was transported by medics to an area hospital with injuries considered serious but non-life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was outside when he was approached by approximately five male suspects. During the course of the incident, the suspect(s) discharged a firearm, striking the victim, and fled the scene.

The events that preceded the shooting remain under investigation and the preliminary investigation has not revealed an ongoing threat to the community.
