Five months after longtime leader Tina Leone stepped away, the Ballston Business Improvement District has named a new chief executive.
Danette Nguyen, formerly of the Maryland Women’s Business Center (MWBC), will helm the organization starting this Thursday, Dec. 5, the organization announced today.
A Ballston resident, Nguyen “led initiatives to empower small businesses and drive economic growth” while working with the MWBC, according to a press release.
Nguyen also has experience in strategic planning, budget management and optimizing organizational operations, a BID spokesperson said.
“Her ability to collaborate across both private and public sectors, strategize, and execute economic initiatives is where she excels,” Simon Carney, president of the Ballston BID board of directors, said. “Danette brings a forward-thinking approach to the BID at a time when innovation and bold ideas are crucial.”

The Ballston Business Improvement District (BID) announces the appointment of Danette Nguyen as CEO, effective December 5. A Ballston resident with extensive leadership and community engagement experience, Nguyen brings a personal and professional commitment to the neighborhood’s success and prosperity.

Nguyen joins the Ballston BID from the Maryland Women’s Business Center (MWBC), a signature program of Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI), where she led initiatives to empower small businesses and drive economic growth. Her experience in strategic planning, budget management and optimizing organizational operations will be instrumental in driving Ballston BID’s mission forward.
