A 39-year-old Arlington resident is in jail after a robbery of the Giant supermarket at Penrose Square.
The robbery happened around 2:40 p.m. Friday and involved an individual who allegedly shoplifted items and then implied having a weapon when confronted by employees.
The suspect was arrested Sunday after being recognized by an officer in the Buckingham neighborhood, leading to a foot chase, according to Arlington County police.

ROBBERY, 2024-12130120, 2500 block of 9th Road S. At approximately 2:39 p.m. on December 13, police were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival it was determined that the suspect entered the business, allegedly concealed merchandise in a bag and walked towards the exit of the store without payment. When the suspect was confronted by employees, they implied a weapon and threatened the two employees before fleeing the scene. During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified, and warrants were obtained for their arrest. On December 15, an officer observed the wanted suspect in the 200 block of N. Glebe Road and attempted to take them into custody. The suspect resisted arrest, and following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was detained and transported to a local area hospital for evaluation. [The suspect], 39, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Robbery (x2) and Obstruction of Justice. They were held without bond.
The same suspect was arrested Dec. 2 for petty larceny and sexual battery but was released on their own recognizance, Arlington County court records show.
